DSS Obeys Court Order, Produces All Sunday Igboho’s Aides

 

The Department of State Service (DSS) on Wednesday produced all 12 detained aides of Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Sunday Igboho before the Federal High Court in Abuja.

This comes less than seventy-two hours after the court ordered the agency to produce all aides of the Yoruba Nation agitator.

On Monday when the court sat, the DSS produced only eight of the detained aides. #

 

Suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari defends self before police panel

 

The suspended deputy commissioner of police, Abba Kyari, appeared before the special investigation panel headed by the deputy inspector-general of police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigations Department, Joseph Egbunike.

The panel sat on Tuesday at the Force headquarters in Abuja.

The IGP Alkali Baba, set up the panel following Kyari’s alleged involvement in a $1.1m Internet fraud allegedly perpetrated by suspected wire fraudster, Abbas Ramon, popularly known as ‘Hushpuppi’, and five others.

Details of Kyari’s defence before the panel are not known to the public.

Meanwhile, Kyari’s replacement as head of the intelligence response team, DCP Tunji Disu, resumed office on Tuesday.

 

Central Bank of Nigeria unveils guidelines for payments system firms

 

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has unveiled guidelines for licensing and regulation of payments system holding companies (PSHC), stressing that companies must exist as non-operating entities in the ecosystem.

The guideline is a follow-up to an earlier template on new license categorization, which required companies with an interest in switching and mobile money service to set up holding structures.

In an accompanying circular issued yesterday and signed by the Director, Payments System Management Department, Musa Jimoh, the CBN insisted that PSHC must maintain a minimum of two subsidiaries with a focus on switching and mobile money services. #

 

41 Killed In Mali Bus And Truck Crash

A bus collided with a lorry killing 41 people and injuring 33 more during heavy rains on Tuesday in central Mali, the government said.

Such accidents are a regular occurrence in the former French colony, where the poor state of the roads has been a source of social tension.

Transport Minister Dembele Madina Sissoko said the dead included a baby after the passenger bus collided with a lorry carrying agricultural produce near the town of Segou.

He stressed it was a provisional toll, and blamed bad weather. #

 

 

Blessing Oborududu settles for silver medal from the 68kg women freestyle wrestling

Ten-time African champion, Blessing Oborududu, on Tuesday capped her illustrious campaign at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics with a silver medal from the 68kg women freestyle wrestling.

Oborududu lost 1-4 to the event’s top seed, United States’ Tamyra Mensah Stock, who also doubles as the current World champion. The American overpowered the former Commonwealth Games champion to extend her dominance of the female weight category.

Chairman, Caretaker Committee of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Daniel Igali, said Oborududu would go down in history as one of the best athletes ever produced in the country. #
