Fuel scarcity persists in Abuja; black marketers take over empty fuel stations
Marvelous Obomanu and Vivian Ekekwe
There seems to be some level of confusion in Abuja as fuel scarcity persists and many fuel stations remain without supply
This is coming at a time when the controversy over the government’s position on subsidy on petrol remains unconvincing.
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, has assured consumers that there would be no hike in petrol price and stated that there was sufficient stock of petrol to meet national demand on petrol.
The Federal government has also said it will not remove subsidy on petrol for the next 18 months.
Signature TV reporters on Tuesday visited AA Rano filling station on the Maitama-Kubwa Road, where some of the motorists alleged that many stations were not dispensing fuel, whereas those dispensing were using just one pump.
There were unusual long queues of vehicles at the filling station, while black market sellers used the opportunity of the scarcity to make a fortune
The Abuja station is replicated in Lagos, where some oil industry workers are threatening to go on strike.
Our correspondent in Port Harcourt however says that fuel stations are operating normally, while in Jos and Kano our reporters notice no fuel queues.
