I have no intention to stay beyond my tenure – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday said he has no intention to stay beyond the constitutionally recognized two terms of office as Nigeria’s President.

The president said he swore by the Holy Quran that he will uphold the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and that he must do so by leaving office in 2023 after his tenure elapses

He stated this during a visit to the Emir of Lafia, retired Justice Sidi Bage Muhammad 1

He also used the opportunity of the visit to advise leaders who take the oath of office by swearing with the holy book not to abuse their office. #

 

Alleged Corruption: Court orders interim forfeiture of ex-governor Okorocha’s property

The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the interim forfeiture of a property located in Abuja belonging to a former governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in a statement on Thursday said the commission obtained the court order after showing the court that the property was illegally acquired.

Wilson Uwujaren, EFCC’s spokesperson, who signed the statement, described the property located in the Garki area of Abuja as “reasonably suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities” of Rochas Okorocha, an incumbent Nigerian senator representing Imo West.

The interim forfeiture order came just some days after the EFCC lamented its inability to serve the ex-governor with the corruption charges it recently filed against him.#

 

Petrol scarcity: Bayelsa Government approves N230 per litre

The Bayelsa State Government has directed that no filling station should sell petrol above N230 per litre, though the national price is N165.

The government said the fixed amount would ensure availability until fuel scarcity ends.

Deputy Governor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo inaugurated a monitoring team on the pricing and distribution of petroleum products on Thursday.

Ewhrudjakpo who directed that no consumer should get more than 25 litres in a jerrycan, assured that government was taking steps to manage the situation.

Chairman, Bayelsa State Petroleum Taskforce, Richman Samuel, said negotiations brought down the price from N300 per litre to N230. #

China ‘Opposes Any Act’ of War; Blames U.S. For Sending Weapons to Ukraine

A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman has condemned the action of the United States of America in sending weapons to Ukraine in the leadup to Russia’s invasion.

Hua Chunying, spokeswoman for the ministry, made the remarks during a press briefing on Thursday as China seeks to maintain its alliance with Russia while also using its influence to quell its conflict with Ukraine.

She said that China opposes any call to war and has tried to reduce tensions in the run-up to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which was condemned by the United States and its Western allies.#
