Nurses at ESUT Teaching Hospital, (Parklane) Enugu, have protested the non provision of protective materials as they are daily exposed to the risk of contracting the dreaded Coronavirus
The nurses who sang songs said the hospital authorities did not provide life saving materials like face mask, hand sanitizers and gloves.
The protesting health professionals wondered why the hospital authorities will abandon them to their fate.
In a swift reaction to the nurses protest the Management of ESUT Teaching Hospital said the State Multi-Sectoral Rapid Response Team including the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) WHO, Unicef, other development partners and philanthropists have provided enough quantities of those materials for which the nurses demonstrated.
A joint statement by the management of the hospital, leadership of the nurses in the institution and Chairman of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), Comrade Ben Asogwa, stated that “these nurses were a few who were apprehensive of their frontline status in the management of COVID-19 pandemic”.
While regretting the incident, the hospital management and leadership of the nurses assured the public that they will continue to render health services at the highest level of care as has been the case.
