International Nurses Week: Ijeoma Ilo calls on Nurses to sacrifice more to assist the sick

As nurses around the world celebrate International Nurses week,  a Fellow of the West African College of Nurses and Lecturer at the Department of Nursing, University of Nigeria Mrs Ijeoma Ilo, has called on nurses to remain committed to their sacred duty of serving humanity.

She said as this week set aside to commemorate and celebrate the life and times of the founder of modern day Nursing, Florence Nightingale  coincides with the rampaging health crisis of Covid-19, it behoves on nurses to redouble their efforts and sacrifice more in assisting the sick

She regretted that due to the ravaging COVID-19 Pandemic hitting nurses globally, the celebration is low keyed but told nurses not be unmindful of the theme of this years celebration “Nursing The World to Health: Celebrating Everday Heroes”

She said that it was commendable and exemplary that not minding the high risk,  nurses remained on the frontline battling to combat CORONAVIRUS and enforcing the guidelines put in place by WHO in preventing the spread of COVID-19.

“Let us at this point remind ourselves and encourage the masses to adopt the measures stipulated by the government/WHO at our respective locations to stay safe.

“I wish to use this medium to encourage, appreciate and congratulate Nurses all over the world especially in Nigeria for taking the lead in ensuring lives are saved in this pandemic”.

Mrs Ilo enjoined all and sundry to put nurses and other health workers endangering their lives in their prayers, as the provide care for many around the world.
