NPC decries the low level demand for CRVS in Nigeria.
The Nigeria Population Commission, NPC, has decried the low level demand for Civil Registration and Vital Statistics, CRVS, in Nigeria.
The Acting Chairman, NPC Dr Eyitayo Oyetunji, expressed the displeasure at the launch of the Automation and Digitization of Civil Registration and Vital Statistics, CRVS, in Abuja on Monday.
Dr Oyetunji noted that birth registration coverage in the country was as low as 43%, while death registration was as low as 10%. He appealed to Nigerians to join the commission in advocating for the registration and certification of births and deaths especially in rural communities now that the process has gone digital.
Launching the programme earlier, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Mohammed Musa Bello, described the launch as a landmark achievement in this COVID-19 pandemic time which has made it difficult to physically carry out activities.
“Today, Nigeria joins other nations across the continent of Africa to celebrate the 3rd edition of the 2020 Africa Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Day with the launch of the Automation and Digitization of Civil Registration and Vital Statistics, CRVS”.
He commended the NPC for the launch of the CRVS
