Benue students protest herdsmen killings
Benue State students have taken to the streets of Makurdi, the state capital to protest killings in the state by suspected herdsmen.
They asked the Meyitti Allah Vigilante Group to leave the State.
The placard-bearing protesters blocked major streets leading to traffic grid lock in Makurdi, capital of Benue.
The students who were also chanting songs headed to the Government House Makurdi to lodge their complaint with the state governor.
According to a member of the protesting students, Dooshima Agar, the students are also expected to carry their peaceful protest to the state house of assembly.
“This is getting too much, a day hardly passes without hearing a case of herders killing or wounding a farmer in one community or another. This is going on in spite of the government’s anti-grazing law. The situation is worsened by the so called Meiyetti Allah Vigilante group, who now occupy our farms. All of them claim to be vigilante, we don’t want them,” She said.
