Fire Guts Ondo INEC Office, Election Materials in Danger
The office of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC was on Thursday evening gutted by fire. According to the information provided on the verified Facebook account of the commission, the fire broke out at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Over 500 card readers were said to have been destroyed by the inferno.
As at the time of filing this report, the cause of the incident is still unknown.
The spokesperson of the commission, Festus Okoye, who is in Ondo State, confirmed the development.
He disclosed that he is currently at the office with some other staff of the commission trying to contain the fire incident.
This is coming at exactly a month to the October 10 governorship election in the state.
