Rivers youths protest kinsmen’s detention by Navy
Hundreds of youths in Rumuolumeni community, Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, have on Tuesday morning blocked all major and internal roads including waterways in the community to protest the detention of their leaders by operatives of Nigeria Navy Pathfinder operating in the area.
The aggrieved youths blocked all entry and exit routes into the community with tankers and trucks, halting all vehicular and waterways movements in the area.
The youths said they had earlier demanded employment opportunities from a marine company operating in the area and when the company finally invited their leaders for discussions, operatives of the Navy detained them.
A youth leader in the community, Felix Chinda, who described the detention of the youths as unlawful, vowed that the youths would sustain the peaceful protest until the youth leaders were released and an apology tendered by the Navy.
