Senate Votes For Electronic Transmission of Election Results
The Nigerian Senate on Thursday voted in support of the electronic transmission of election results as the Green Chamber began the final consideration of the Electoral Act Amendment bill.
The Senators also rejected a move to subject the transmission to any clearance by the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC.
At the Thursday Plenary, 52 Senators voted against subjecting electronic transmission of election results to clearance by NCC, while 28 senators voted in favour with 28 Senators absent at the session.
Meanwhile, there was confusion in the House of Representatives as the Deputy Speaker, Idris Wase(APC Plateau) ruled against the electronic transmission of election results despite overwhelming support by members for the provision.
A number of the legislators have vowed not to allow the deputy speaker to misrepresent the position of a majority of the legislators in the Green Chambers.
