Anambra Election: INEC Affirms Date for Final List of Candidates
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reaffirmed the date for the release of the final list of candidates who will partake in the Anambra governorship election holding on November 6, 2021.
At a meeting on Thursday, the Commission agreed to publish the final list on October 7.
According to a communique by INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, the date is the same one contained in the timetable and schedule of activities for the election, which was released earlier.
Student activist shot dead near LASU
A student activist at the Lagos State University, Yusuf Nurudeen, popularly known as Omomeewa, has been shot dead.
The president, LASU Students’ Union, Badmus Uthman, and Public Relations Officer of the Union, Olusola Kolawole, announced in a press statement on Thursday that the activist was killed by robbers.
The activist, who got married about six months ago, was shot dead around LASU U-turn, Iba road, after just recently appearing before the school’s disciplinary committee over unlawful possession of university documents and his opposition to anti-student and anti-worker policies, among others.
Hoodlums rob PoS operator of N4m, burn corpse, kill Uber driver
Four suspected serial killers have been arrested by men of the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly killing a Point-of-Sale terminal operator, Abiodun Odebunmi, and an Uber driver, Idowu Ademiluyi.
The suspects, identified as Kehinde Jelili, aka Oluomo, Abiodun Akinola, Johnson Fakeye, and Jamiu Akinola, allegedly set ablaze Odebunmi’s remains after stealing four million naira from him.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday, said the suspects were members of a syndicate that specialised in robbing PoS and Uber operators in the state.
The PPRO explained that Aanu Salaudeen, a PoS attendant who worked for Odebunmi, reported her boss at the Onipanu divisional police headquarters after he left their office at Aparadija the previous day to meet a customer and was said to have gone missing since then.
NSCDC arrests man allegedly attempting to kidnap 2 pupils in Katsina
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested a 35-year-old tricycle rider for allegedly attempting to kidnap two pupils of Family Support Programme Primary and Secondary School, GRA, Katsina.
NSCDC spokesperson in Katsina State, Mohammed Tukur, while parading the suspect, on Thursday at the command’s premises, explained that the suspect, who is a resident of Unwalar Jangefe area of the state, was arrested near the school by officials of the corps, stationed there on Aug 11th.
He advised parents to be extra careful on who they assign or allow to pick their children from school and warn their wards against following strangers.
Anger as police detain, enslave suspected ESN member’s girlfriend
Nigerians on social media have expressed anger over the alleged unlawful detention and enslavement of a 21-year-old lady, Glory Okolie, who was arrested by operatives of the Intelligence Response Team in Imo State.
Okolie, who was apprehended on June 17, 2021, could be released on Friday after a public outcry generated by her story, which went viral on social media on Wednesday.
Okolie was reportedly apprehended to track down a suspected member of the Eastern Security Network said to be her boyfriend.
Though the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, has ordered an investigation into the matter, Nigerians on Facebook have faulted the police for their actions.
