2023: Obasanjo, IBB, Ex-Generals back Southern Presidency

Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo alongside some retired military generals have expressed support for a Southern President in 2023.

OBJ alongside the generals have indicated interest in supporting some candidates for the exalted seat next year.

It was learned that those currently being considered to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari include Former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, President of the African Development Bank, Akinwunmi Adesina and Ex-deputy CBN Governor, Prof. Kingsley Moghalu.

A reliable source close to OBJ, who pleaded anonymity, also disclosed that frontline candidate and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar’s candidacy has been ruled out. He added that Ex-INEC chairman, Attahiru Jega was being considered for the Vice Presidential Slot.

The source said: “He (Obasanjo) supports power shift to the South. The people he has indicated an interest in general and not specifically are Akinwumi Adesina, Peter Obi and Kingsley Moghalu.

”Then in the North, he likes Attahiru Jega (former INEC chairman) to be the running mate. He is not supporting Atiku at all. He supports power-shift.”

Several individuals have indicated interest in becoming the next president of Nigeria.

So far, Ex-SGF, Anyim Pius Anyim, Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Former Abia Governor, Orji Uzor Kalu, Ex-Lagos Governor, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Ex-Imo Governor, Rochas Okorocha and Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal have all declared their intentions to contest.
