The much-anticipated signing of the re-worked electoral act amendment bill which was slated to be signed on Tuesday by President Muhammadu Buhari has been postponed to Friday 25th February.

According to a close source to the presidency who had earlier indicated that the signing would be on Wednesday, said that the new date would be honoured by the president.

This was decided during the Federal Executive Council meeting in Abuja on Wednesday at the presidential villa.

Recall that a coalition of over twenty-four Civil Society Organizations staged a peaceful protest in Abuja on Tuesday over the delay by President Muhammadu Buhari to sign the amended electoral bill into law.

The protesters who gathered at the Unity Fountain carried different placards calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to sign the bill immediately to prevent rigging in Nigeria’s election.

Some other protesters who spoke to our correspondent urged President Muhammadu Buhari to sign the bill in order to enable the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to prepare for the 2023 general election.

The electoral act if signed into law by the president will improve Nigeria’s electoral system.
