IWD: Ipalibo Harry Banigo Accuses APC of Allegedly Marginalizing Women
The Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Ipalibo Harry Banigo, has spoken against the alleged gender inequality in the All Progressive Congress-led Federal Government.
Banigo made this statement while giving a goodwill message to commemorate this year’s International Women’s Day celebration (IWD)
Signature TV Correspondent, Ifunanya Ilodianya in Port Harcourt, reports that Banigo said it was unfortunate that five gender bills that would have given women better political opportunities, were scuttled by the APC controlled National Assembly.
The Deputy Governor advised men to encourage women to fulfill their God-given destinies in all areas of their lives, saying this was in tune with this year’s IWD theme.
Harry Banigo, praised the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike for speaking against gender inequality and for giving women in the state all the necessary support to succeed in all tiers of government.
She also said that the Governor’s support for women can be seen in his choice of a female as his deputy for two tenures, the appointment of two female Chief Judges in the state, the nomination of a female President of the Customary Court of Appeal and support for women to emerge as vice-chairmen of the 23 local government areas of the state among others.
International Women’s Day is celebrated on the 8th of March every year to highlight challenges women face and applaud their socio-economic feats.
This year’s theme was “Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow”
