SGF Directs Ambassadors, Heads Of Agencies, Others With Political Ambition To Resign

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Boss Mustapha has directed ambassadors, heads of agencies, and other government appointees with political ambition to step down. 

This directive, which came in a circular on Wednesday, followed President Muhammadu Buhari’s order to members of the cabinet who are seeking offices in next year’s poll to resign.

The SGF noted that those affected should hand over to the most senior persons next to them. #

PDP Dumps Zoning, Throws Presidential Ticket Open

The National Executive Council (NEC) of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has opted to throw the contest for its presidential ticket open rather than zone it to a particular region of the country.

The National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Debo Ologunagba, announced this decision on Wednesday while briefing newsmen at the party’s secretariat in Abuja, after the NEC meeting.

He informed newsmen that the decision was part of the resolutions reached at the end of the 96th PDP NEC meeting where the recommendation of the party’s National Zoning Committee for the presidential election should be left open was adopted. #

National Assembly Begs Chinese Govt To Rescue 62 Kidnapped Abuja-Kaduna Train Passengers

The Joint National Assembly Committee on Land Transport on Wednesday begged the Chinese Government to help rescue 62 passengers abducted from the Abuja-Kaduna passengers’ train on the 28th March 2022 by suspected terrorists.

Addressing journalists after an oversight visit to the Obafemi Awolowo Train Station in Ibadan, Chairman, Senate Committee on Land Transport, Senator Abdulafatai Buhari said that it’s embarrassing that 47 days after some passengers were kidnapped from the Abuja-Kaduna passenger train, they are yet to be rescued.

Buhari said the Chinese Government makes money from the many rail projects that are being handled by the China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) here in Nigeria, so asking them to help us is not out of place. #

Polytechnic Lecturers Declare Warning Strike, Threaten Indefinite Shutdown

Another setback looms in the nation’s education sector as members of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) prepare to embark on a warning strike after an emergency meeting of the union’s National Executive Council to review the response of the Federal Government to its ultimatum.

ASUP President, Anderson Ezeibe, made the announcement on Wednesday, two days after the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) extended its ongoing strike which began in mid-February by another 12 weeks.

He stated that the polytechnic lecturers would withdraw their services in a two-week industrial action with effect from Monday next week. #
