A political analyst, Jide Ojo has called on the Electorates to partner with the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC to stop vote buying in elections.

The political analyst made the call on Tuesday in Abuja at a one-day webinar organized by corruption tori, with the topic “Reducing corruption to Zero in the 2023 election’’.

According to the analyst, politicians induce the electorates by providing foodstuffs and other relief materials to get their votes.

The political Analyst said in the previous Ekiti and Osun elections, vote buying was at an alarming state, urging the INEC and security agencies to take advantage of the Electoral Act 2022 which has criminalized vote buying to arrest and prosecute offenders.

A veteran journalist, Nwabueze Njoku said politicians and political parties induce the electorate by sharing gift items like clothes, wrappers and some foodstuffs to make it look like they mean well to the masses.

He called on the independent national electoral commission to be ethical and transparent in the forthcoming general elections.

Present at the webinar were members of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Politicians, Civil Society Organizations, amongst others.

The webinar was organized by Corruption Tori, a pidgin English television program produced by Signature TV  and supported by MacArthur Foundation to amplify the war against corruption in Nigeria.
