Tight security in Kano, as Yusuf is sworn-in as governor
There was heavy security presence in and around Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano on Monday, as Abba Kabir-Yusuf was sworn in as governor of the state.
Security personnel were seen patrolling major streets leading to the stadium and some major roads within the metropolis. Security personnel from the police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and Department of State Services (DSS) were seen in strategic locations within the stadium and other areas.
The residents, who trooped out to witness the occasion, were thoroughly screened, while the officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) were seen controlling traffic.
The 20,000-capacity Sani Abacha Stadium was filled to the brim, as supporters of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) were seen in white attires and red caps, dancing and celebrating within and outside the stadium.
It was observed that most businesses were shut, as their owners trooped out en masse to witness the inauguration.
Traditional and religious leaders, including the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Bayero and the Emirs of Bichi, Rano, Gaya and Karaye emirates, were also present at the ceremony.
The National Leader of NNPP, Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso and other dignitaries also featured prominently at the inauguration of the new governor.
