Democracy In Nigeria Has Been Entrenched – Nasarawa Vice Chancellor

The Nasarawa State University, Vice Chancellor, Professor Suleiman Bala Muhammed, says democracy in nigeria has been entrenched having succession of civilian to civilian administrations since 1999.

He said democracy is about sepreation of governmental power, the Executive, legislation and judiciary.

Muhammed was the Keynote Speaker at the Project Nigeria 2023 Conference, in Keffi to commemorate Nigeria Democracy.

“Since 1999 to date, Nigeria has a had succession of civilian administrations, civilian  to civilian transition, we have had consolidation of democracy, I think it is safe to safe without  fear of any contradiction that democracy in Nigeria has been entrenched” 

“And that we really need to do is to sustain and ensure that the democratic governance in place should be consolidated and made to work the way the way it is supposed to work. He added.

Muhammed said it is safer to conclude that what we have in nigeria is democratic governance. Because democracy is some thing we nutured, which requires time to be fully implemented.

He regretted that one of the causes of the Military Coups in Nigeria was as a result of Corruption, Instability, and mismanagement of funds among the politicians.

In his remarks, the convener, Beyond Boundaries Legacy Leadership Initiative, (BBLLI), Omega Daniel, said Nigerians should respect one another irrespective of religion, region or ethnic group, but to see themselves as one Nigeria.

He called for unity, peace and stability among Nigerians.

For the Cheif Execuitive Officer, ASR Africa, believes democracy is a process and Nigeria has grown with a lot of changes especially with the Electoal Act in place. 

He said the youth in the last election has an impact they created as they determine the future for the country as it is critical. He charged the youth to be focused and be determined to move Nigeria to the Next Level.

The Program was organized by Beyond Boundaries Legacy leadership initiative (BBLLI), in collaboration with North Central Youth Alliance for Democracy (NOCYAD).

The theme of the conference theme: “Democracy In Nigeria: Echoes From The Past Achievements in the Present and Hopes For The Future”

The program feature, paper presentations, panel discussions and award presentation.

Present at the 2023 Conference were Students, youths, politicians, top government official among others.
