Life in My City Art Festival Opens Grand Finale Exhibition in Enugu

Life in My City Art Festival( Limcaf) on Saturday, 21st October 2023, opened the grand finale of its 2023 art exhibition in Enugu.

The opening was done by the honourable commissioner for culture and tourism Enugu State, Dame Ugochi Madueke, at the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) in Enugu.

In his welcome address the art director of Limcaf, Dr. Ayo Adewumi, said that Limcaf has a total number of 600 entries of artworks from all over Nigeria in this year’s edition. He said they had to do the regional competition in the 13 regions around the nation, which include Enugu, Owerri, Lagos, Ibadan, Taraba, Zaria, Abuja and others. Out of these 600 artists, the jury had to select 101 best artists.

He commended the level of creativity of young Nigerian artists, adding that their efforts really encourage Limcaf. Adewumi said they have talented artists, who need to be supported.

He explained that at the Grand finale and award night which comes next week, they are going to have prizes for outstanding artists. And incidentally this year, they are going to have a grand prize of N1m for the overall winner.

He added that Limcaf has category winners, about five of them, who will be going home with N500,000 each and also there are other endowed prizes from the individuals and the families, who feel they need to support the young artists.

He revealed that apart from the award, there is international sponsorship for the best six artists, who will be sponsored to Dakar, Senegal so that they can witness another level of competition.

Lending his voice, the Executive Director of Limcaf Mr. Kelvin Ejiofo thanked the guests for honouring their invitation.
He maintained that LIMCAF would continue to create opportunities for Nigerian artists to showcase their talents. He also appreciated the sponsors of the festival for their support.

Also speaking during the event the honourable commissioner for culture and tourism in Enugu state, Dame Ugochi Madueke, appreciated LIMCAF for their effort in making sure that Nigerian artists are encouraged and supported.

She said the State have a programme called arts and Culture Festival, and they want to bring it up every year, adding that is going to be an annual event starting next year. She said the government will partner with Limcaf, adding that The event will also feature an Art exhibition.

Those in attendance Include; the honourable commissioner for culture and tourism Enugu State Dame Ugochi Madueke, the art director of Limcaf Dr. Ayo Adewumi, the executive director of Limcaf Mr Kelvin Ejiofo, Hon. Greg Anyaegbudike and artists whose works are selected among others.
