Oji River Presidents General Meet With The Officials Of EEDC Over Power Outage

Officials of the Association of Presidents General of Oji River Local government in Enugu state, have met with the management of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company over the prolonged power outage in the region.

The president’s general says the outage has lasted for over two months.

Speaking to Signaturetv on Tuesday after the meeting in Enugu, the coordinator of the group Honourable Ejike Ilo Tasie said the meeting became necessary because the power outage in Oji River has put communities in the area in a total blackout and affected small businesses.

Hon. Tasie said that the outage affected four communities of Oji River which includes Achi, Inyi, Akpugoeze and Awlaw.

He added that because of the prolonged outage, some of the Transformers have been vandalized by hoodlums. Ejike also hinted that when the natural disaster which lead to the problem happened, it affected the Oji River power line and that of Ufuma.
He then wondered why the electricity company has fixed the Ufuma line and left Oji River power line unattended.

Hon. Ejike said that the meeting was successful with an assurance from the electricity distribution company to fix the problem before the end of the month.
He expressed regrets on the vandalism to the property of the electricity company and promised that the communities will commit to protecting such properties going forward.

According to him, EEDC has also promised a reward of fifty thousand naira to any vigilante group that apprehends criminals stealing or vandalizing such properties.
He thanked the senator representing Enugu west, Senator Osita Ngwu for his efforts in making sure that power was restored in Oji River.

He also commended the Oji River Local government Chairman Hon. Chinedu Onyeagba who has also spared no effort in pushing for restoration of power to the zone.

In attendance at the meeting were the president general of Amaetiti Achi autonomous Community Evang. Chukwudi Madueke, President general of Ubaha Awlaw autonomous Community Obinna Hudson Ukommadu, President general of Akpugoeze Ugwu autonomous Community, Chief Sunday David Onwuegbu, the president general of Alum Inyi autonomous Community, Sir Ephraim Uzodimma, and presidents general of other 24 autonomous Communities in Oji River. Also in attendance are the special assistants to the Senator representing the people of Enugu west, Hon. Ifeanyi Chibueze, Hon. Merit Umebuani and Hon. Pedro Ibe.
