A Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has granted an interim injunction restraining Martin Chike Amaewhule, who maintains that he is the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, and his deputy, Dumle Maol, from “disturbing, obstructing or interfering with the legislative proceedings” of the assembly.

The court also restrained the lawmakers from preventing the legislative duties and functions of Edison Ehie as Speaker in accordance with Sections 90-104 of the constitution, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice filed in the suit.

Similarly, the court also granted an interlocutory injunction restraining the Inspector General of Police; Director, Department of State Services; and the Commisioner of Police in the state from giving effect to any instruction issued by Amaewhule and Maol aimed at disturbing, obstructing or interfering with the legislative proceedings of the assembly.

It further restrained them from preventing Ehie’s legislative duties as speaker in accordance with Sections 90-104 of the constitution, pending the hearing and final determination of the motion on notice filed in this suit.
