Meanwhile, a Federal High Court in Kano has issued an order restraining the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission from inviting or investigating the former governor of the state and National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Abdullahi Ganduje over bribery allegations leveled against him.

The Presiding judge, Justice Abdullahi Liman said the alleged infractions committed by Ganduje fall under federal jurisdiction which is outside the scope of the state anti-graft agency.

Liman emphasized that matters of that nature should be handled by federal agencies such as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Reacting to the judgment, counsel to the Kano Anti-Corruption Agency, Usman Fari, announced plans to appeal the verdict expressing his client’s dissatisfaction with the ruling.

Counsel to Ganduje, Matthew Burkaa however  hailed the decision as a correct interpretation of the law commending the court for its stand.

The bribery allegations against the former governor surfaced in 2018 when an online newspaper, released a video purportedly showing Ganduje allegedly receiving bundles of dollars from contractors, which he then allegedly concealed within his traditional attire, known as babanriga.

The newspaper alleged that Ganduje solicited a $5 million bribe from the contractors captured in the video.
