RESCUE OPERATIONS UNDERWAY AS HEAVY RAIN HITS GUANGXI, YUNNAN
Firefighters battled rising floodwaters across south China over the weekend after heavy downpours left many residents trapped.
Torrential rain lashed Qujing City in southwest China’s Yunnan Province on Saturday evening, with floodwaters reaching depths of over two meters in low-lying areas.
The ground floors of many buildings were submerged, trapping several people in their homes.
Firefighters used rubber boats to reach the stricken residents and evacuate them to safety.
They also located drainage outlets and opened manhole covers to speed up drainage to prevent further waterlogging.
Meanwhile, major floods were also reported on Sunday morning in a village of Chongzuo City, south China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
Local firefighter departments dispatched rescuers on rowing kayaks to reach three trapped villagers, where the water reached up to 80 centimeters.
They transferred them to safety in just over twenty minutes.
