Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority, ECTDA on Tuesday morning sealed the Enugu headquarters of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC.
The action by ECTDA is believed to be in connection with the alleged disconnection of the Enugu State Government House by the EEDC on Monday night.
EEDC had in an announcement on Friday warned that it will disconnect some top businesses, companies and government establishments in the South East including Enugu State Government House.
Staff of the EEDC who came for work Tuesday morning met locked offices while a caterpillar was parked opposite the EEDC head office.
The Head of Communication for the EEDC, Emeka Eze when contacted said he was not aware of any activity in the office.
The Chairman of ECTDA, Uche Anya while responding to a phone call from Signature TV Correspondent acknowledged the sealing of the EEDC but assured that a statement will be issued in due course.
In a disconnection notice sighted by Signature TV, EEDC advised those indebted to it to clear their outstanding bills on or before June 10, 2024.
The notice said the exercise has become necessary considering the huge unpaid electricity bills which has consistently put the company in a precarious revenue deficit position making it difficult for the organisation to meet its obligations.
Some of the highly indebted customers include governments of Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra, Abia and Imo State governments as well as Innoson Technical and Industries, University of Nigeria Enugu and Nsukka campuses and the Nigerian Bottling Company Ltd among others.
