Transfer: I’m sad – Arteta reacts after midfielder joins Arsenal’s EPL rivals

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, has said he is “sad” after Emile Smith Rowe joined Fulham.

The transfer was formally announced by both Premier League clubs on Friday, in a statement on their websites.

The Gunners will receive £27m plus £7m add-ons for Smith Rowe.

Arteta has now wished the midfielder well for the next phase of his career.

“I’m sad that Emile is leaving us, but excited for him to take this new opportunity at this stage of his career.

“Emile is loved by everyone at Arsenal and leaves us with our gratitude, absolute respect and best wishes,” Arteta told the club’s official website.

Smith Emile joined Arsenal’s Academy at the age of ten and progressed through each age group before making his way into the first-team squad.

He went on to make 115 senior appearances for Arsenal in all competitions, scoring 18 goals and assisting 13 times.

“Everyone at Arsenal thanks Emile for his contribution to the club and wishes him all the best for his future,” Arsenal’s statement read.

“The transfer is subject to the completion of regulatory processes.”
