Ekiti Warns Contractors Against Substandard Road Projects

The Ekiti State Government has announced the discontinuation of laterite as a base material for road construction, mandating contractors to use crushed stone to improve road durability.

This policy shift, introduced since Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s administration began on October 16, 2022, aims to ensure long-lasting roads and better value for public spending.

A Friday statement on the state government website disclosed this.

During a media tour of key projects, the State Commissioner for Works, Mr Adesola Adebayo, stressed that “substandard work would not be tolerated,” adding that all road projects would be rigorously monitored for compliance with contract terms.

He highlighted 19 ongoing road projects, including the Ilawe-Ikere, Igbara Odo-Ikere, and Ado-Iworoko-Ifaki roads, among others.

In a related statement, the Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, praised the administration’s achievements, noting the tour was part of the government’s transparency and accountability initiative.

He stressed that the administration’s six developmental pillars have led to significant progress in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and agriculture, positioning Ekiti as an emerging industrial hub.

The tour group, including media representatives, visited several project sites, where residents expressed their appreciation for the government’s efforts to improve living standards across the state.
