Golfers From Ghana, Cameroon, Rwanda Arrive Abuja Ahead Nigeria At 64 Golf Competition

Nigeria’s prestigious Golf Club, IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja has unveiled its programmes of event to mark Nigeria’s 64th independence anniversary Golf Championship.

Briefing journalists in the Club house, Chairman of Committee and Vice Captain of the Club, Dr. James Agbonhese said the week long event will be teed off on Wednesday with Staff and Caddies competition while on Thursday, the Lady section will celebrate both past Captains and past Lady Captains in a very unique and special way. On Friday Ladies handicap 28 and above and Men handicap 19 and above, Veterans and Super Veterans will play in category three tournament.

On Saturday, it will be the turn of Ladies handicap 11 to 27 and Men handicap 11 to 18 in category two. Double matchplay between the IBB players and their visiting golfers from Ghana, Uganda, Cameroon, and Rwanda will hold on Sunday while the single matchplay between host and visiting countries will be on Monday.

” On the 1st of October, we are going to have the grand finale. We are going to have a ceremonial tee off in the morning with the Minister of Sports development Senator John Owan Enoh and other top government functionaries at the ceremony. In the evening, it is going to be a party with food and drinks to celebrate Nigeria.” Vice Captain said.

“I want say that we have no other country but Nigeria. We must celebrate our country and whatever challenges we are facing today, is a phase, Nigeria will be great again. Because of what Nigeria has done for all of us in our individual and collective life, we have every reason to celebrate this country. This is why the Independence Cup tournament is very dear to our heart in IBB and we will do everything to showcase our country, our unity in diversity, and the prospects of our future existence.” The committee Chairman concluded.

In his remarks at the briefing, the Club Captain, Ibrahim Babayo, said IBB International Golf and Country Club is a Sports Club that recognises the impact of Nigeria to the whole world, and they will be happy to market the country to the entire world through their independence golf tournament. He said the course is ready for the different categories tournaments despite the rain.

Speaking in the same vein, Lady Captain, Dame Julie Okah Donli said the Thursday Past Captains and Past Lady Captains kitty tournament, is a special kitty to celebrate and appreciate as well as thanking them for the job done during their tenure.

She said Afro Juju maestro, Shina Peters will be around to thrill everyone. “It is going to be a very interesting day for Past Captains and Past Lady Captains including everyone that will be present.”

Different trophies and gifts have been purchased for all categories of the winners.

Members of the committee were all present at the briefing.
