Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has congratulated 17-year-old Nigerian-American motorsport sensation, Ugo Orlandi, on his victory at the 71st Macau Grand Prix.
The win marks Orlandi as the first American driver in over four decades to claim the prestigious title, making the moment a historic milestone in the world of motorsport.
Orlandi clinched the 2024 FIA Formula Regional (FR) World Cup title on Sunday, November 17 at the 71st Macau Grand Prix.
The young driver dominated the race from start to finish, representing R-ace GP, with Olivier Goethe of MP Motorsport and Noel León of KCMG IXO by Pinnacle Motorsport finishing second and third, respectively.
“Ugo’s outstanding victory stands as a testament to his immense talent, hard work, and consistent dedication—qualities that our youth today can demonstrate when given the right support and guidance,” Obi said.
Orlandi, who boasts a rich cultural heritage with a Nigerian mother, supermodel Oluchi Onweagba Orlandi, and an Italian father, former fashion designer Luca Orlandi, has become an inspiration to millions.
“His success serves as an inspiration to young Nigerians everywhere, illustrating the boundless potential that can be realized when passion is paired with opportunity,” Obi added.
