House Announces Roadmap For Stakeholders, Citizens’ Engagement

The House of Representatives says it is rolling out a nationwide roadmap to engage citizens and stakeholders on the proposed amendment of the 1999 Constitution.

At a meeting of the House Committee on Constitution Review, the Chairman of the committee and Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu said the series of consultations is aimed at building national consensus.

Kalu said the committee will engage governors, state assembly speakers, civil society groups, political parties, media executives, and the diplomatic corps; beginning with a session with the Nigerian Governors Forum on the 23rd of July this year.

Public hearings across all zones are scheduled for July while the harmonized bills will be transmitted to state houses of assembly for adoption by October 30

Priority issues include gender inclusion, state policing, and national security.
