Let’s Make Afrobeats Great Again – Naira Marley Appeals to Colleagues
Nigerian singer and rapper, Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, has urged his colleagues to join him in making Afrobeats “great again”.
He made the appeal on X, writing, “Anyways let’s make afrobeat great again.”
Naira Marley’s appeal comes as he aims to regain his position as one of the top Afrobeats artists after facing cancel culture following accusations of involvement in his former signee, Mohbad’s death.
A court recently dismissed Mohbad’s father’s suit against Naira Marley and his associate Sam Larry, stating that there was insufficient evidence to link them directly to the death.
Ghanaian-American singer Amaarae recently claimed that the global momentum of Afrobeats has stalled.
She insisted that Afrobeats, and African music in general, needs to evolve.
