Troops Rescue Abducted Lecturer In Taraba

Troops of 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), in collaboration with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), have rescued a kidnapped lecturer of Taraba State University

The lecturer, identified as Engineer Joshua Saleh, was abducted by suspected criminals on 31 July 2025 along the Chinkai–Kente–Wukari road in Wukari Local Government Area of the state.

In a statement on Sunday, Lieutenant Umar Mohammed, Public Relations Officer of the 6 Brigade, said the rescue operation followed “credible and actionable intelligence.”

“Acting on the intelligence, the troops, alongside DSS operatives, launched a targeted search and rescue operation across key locations including Kente, Tsondi 1 and 2, Yaku, and the Warawa general area,” he noted.

During the mission, troops encountered the kidnappers and engaged them in a fierce gun battle. Overpowered by superior firepower, the criminals fled, abandoning the victim. Saleh was rescued unhurt.

Commending the team, the Commander of 6 Brigade NA/Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised their swift response, professionalism, and coordination with other security agencies.

He reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to safeguarding lives and maintaining peace in Taraba, urging residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information to support ongoing security operations.
