The Enugu State Government has taken a step toward transforming its public service through digitization and e-governance. The State Executive Council has approved the procurement of 20,000 computers for distribution to workers across the state’s public service.

Briefing newsmen after the Council’s meeting at Government House, Enugu, the Head of Service, Dr. Godwin Anigbo said the move underscores the state government’s passion for deploying technology to solve problems and improve efficiency.

He explained that the initiative will enhance productivity, enable real-time tracking of performance, and drive the successful implementation of the government’s reforms.

In another development, the Enugu State Executive Council has approved the establishment of Food and Nutrition Units in selected ministries, in line with the National Food Policy, to boost food security across the state.

The selected ministries are Trade and Investment, Budget and Planning, Information, Education, Human Development and Poverty Alleviation, and Agriculture.

These units will work together to implement key initiatives, including the provision of free meals at Smart Schools across the state.

This decision comes just days after the state government, on Tuesday, distributed food items to local governments as part of its efforts to fight poverty and improve nutrition.

Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Lloyd Ekweremadu, described the move as an opportunity for the government to recommit to its promise of eradicating poverty and ensuring food security.

The Enugu State Government has keyed into the National Policy on Food and Nutrition, a framework for tackling food and nutrition challenges through a multi-sectoral approach aimed at reducing malnutrition, alleviating poverty, and improving living standards.

The policy also includes the National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme, (NHGSFP) which provides nutritious meals to public primary school pupils, sourced locally from farmers and producers, while boosting the local economy.
