Football Legend Christain Chukwu Laid To Rest At His Hometown, Nkanu West LGA, Enugu
Nigerian football Icon, Christian Chukwu, popularly known as Chairman, was laid to rest in his hometown of Obe, Nkanu West Local Government Area, Enugu State.
Chukwu, who passed away on April 12, 2025, at the age of 74, is celebrated for his remarkable contributions to Nigerian football.
He captained the Enugu Rangers and the Nigerian national team, then known as the Green Eagles, to their first Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title in 1980.
The officiating Priest, Prof. Samuel Ike, in his sermon emphasized the value of a good name, reminding all that the body returns to dust when God calls man home.
Enugu state Governor Peter Mbah expressed gratitude to the Chukwu family and Obe community for giving the world such an icon.
He assured them that Chukwu’s legacy would be immortalized and that the family would not be left alone.
