A Sickle cell survivor, Mrs. Ozioma Onyemelukwe has advised intending couples to for genotype tests in trusted labs to ascertain their compatibility with their partners before going into marriage.

Onyemelukwe who shared her 55 year-journey with sickle cell on a breakfast show in Signature TV, New Day said that living with the condition is quite challenging.
He regretted that many people know about sickle cell but lack proper enlightenment about necessary precautionary measures.

Narrating her personal experiences, Onyemelukwe who is a professional teacher recalled how her struggles began with severe headaches and fainting, leading to her diagnosis, and how the illness often left her exempted from school and other activities.

She said that despite initial stigma and negative perceptions, she found peace through teaching and faith in God.

She advised those living with sickle cell to stay hydrated, avoid heat, live in cool environments, and hold firmly to God, whom she credits for sustaining her life.
