NGO PUSHES CANCER AWARENESS AMONG NIGERIAN WOMEN – WATCH VIDEO
The Education, Social and Health Mission (MESH), a humanitarian arm of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), has advised married women to be conscious of their cancer status.
The group gave the advice in Abuja on Tuesday at a sensitisation programme on the risks of cancer.
October of every year is breast cancer awareness month.
By United Nations figures breast cancer affects over 2.3 million women every year.
In Nigeria, Breast cancer is the most common cancer among nigerian women making up about tewenty-five percent of new cancer cases.
It is also the leading cause of death in women from csncer related health challenges, especially when detected late.
For this reason, the Education, Social and Health Mission (MESH), addressed married women in Abuja to draw attention to common risk factors, the treatment, and prevention of breast cancer.
Director Nursing, Bwari General Hospital, Habiba Umar thanked the federal government for its support to the treatment of cancer patients in nigeria.
The federal government has commissioned three advanced oncology centres in Katsina, Enugu, and Benin as part of a broader push to expand cancer care infrastructure make the treatment affordable and accessible to nigerians.
