Former Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman, has explained that his resignation from office was a personal decision taken after deep reflection.

In a statement signed by him, Prof. Usman said he chose to leave the position after prayers and consultations with members of his family.

He emphasised that the move had nothing to do with pressure or disagreement with the government.

He disclosed that he had formally conveyed his resignation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in accordance with the law governing the commission, adding that the decision took effect on Monday, February 9, 2026.

According to him, stepping aside was done with a clear conscience and full respect for the responsibilities attached to public service.

He described the choice as one made thoughtfully and for reasons strictly personal in nature.

Prof. Usman noted that his resignation followed the requirements of the NAHCON Act of 2006, which mandates that such a decision must be communicated in writing to the President.

The former chairman expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for entrusting him with the leadership of the commission, saying the opportunity to serve was a great honour he would always remember.

He also appreciated Vice President Kashim Shettima for his support and encouragement during his tenure.

He thanked members of the NAHCON board, management, and staff for their cooperation and commitment, describing their teamwork and professionalism as a major source of motivation while he was in office.

“I ask Allah (SWT) to guide and bless the President and the new leadership of NAHCON, and to grant all future pilgrims a Hajj Mabrur,” he added.
