Woro Killings: Senate Calls For Rescue Of Kidnapped Women And Children
The Senate has urged the Federal Government to intensify efforts towards the safe rescue and release of all abducted women and Children in Woro Community in Kaiama Local Government of Kwara State.
The Senate equally called on the Federal Government to redesign and comprehensively flush out criminal elements from the Kanji forest reserve and consider it a strategic establishment of security formation, where necessary.
The decision followed a motion of National Importance raised by Senator Sadiq Suleiman Umar, from Kwara North on the floor, where he posited that communities in remote and forest bothering areas remain vulnerable and require protection to protect life.
Other Senators described the incident as a sad one noting that the issues of insecurity, armed banditry, kidnapping and abduction has become a reoccurring decimal and called for urgent actions.
The Deputy Senate President, Senator Jibrin Barau, called on the federal and state governments to provide comprehensive resources and well-structured programmes for the displaced families and residents of Woro Community and other areas.
The Senate equally urged the Federal Government to completely fund and complete the already awarded Wawa Kaiama and Kiama-Kishi road projects, noting that the terrible state of the roads has made access to community difficult as well as worsen security in the region.
