Enugu Warns Politicians Against Unauthorised Poster Display
The Enugu State Structures for Signage and Advertisement Agency has reiterated its ban on the pasting and display of posters across the state, warning that violators would pay a fine of up to 50 million naira.
The agency, in a statement signed by its General Manager, Francis Aninwike, on Wednesday, said the ban applied to all posters, including those bearing the names, photographs, logos, slogans and messages of political parties, candidates and aspirants.
According to the agency, the ban is backed by the Enugu State Structures for Signage and Advertisement Agency Law of 2016 which provide for the regulation and control of outdoor advertising and the display of posters and other advertising materials
It stated that no individual, political party, candidate, aspirant, campaign organisation or supporter was permitted to paste, affix or display posters on buildings, walls, fences, bridges, electricity poles, road infrastructure, public facilities or any public or private surface in the state.
The restriction according to the agency is to prevent the indiscriminate defacement of public and private property and preserve the environmental and aesthetic quality of cities, towns and communities across the state.
