Abide by the rules and respect human rights, Buhari advises Nigerian Army

President Muhammadu Buhari has advised the Nigerian Army to abide by the rules of engagement and respect human rights while carrying out their operations.

The President gave the advice at the grand finale of the Nigerian Army Day Celebration held at the Command Officers Mess, Abuja on Tuesday

The 2021 Army Day Celebration ended with a lecture and Chief of Army Staff Commendation Award Ceremony

President Muhammadu Buhari, who was the Special Guest of Honour at the Chief of Army Staff Commendation Award Ceremony stressed the need to employ new tactics, techniques and strategies in the fight against insecurity.

The President who was represented by the Minister of Defence, retired Major General Bashir Magashi, pledged the government’s support for the welfare of the Armed Forces.

The Chief of Army Staff, Major General Faruk Yahaya in his remarks said the Nigerian Army is repositioning itself to confront insurgency.

He said the Army under his command will restore the glory of Regimental Sergeant Major’s (RSM) and promote gallantry

At the Chief of Army Staff Award, ten officers and seven soldiers were honoured for their service to the nation.

The event also featured the presentation of awards to the President, Retired and serving Service Chiefs and other dignitaries and also the presentation of a car gift to Army Headquarters RSM and Army Headquarters Garrison RSM

The Army Day Celebration is a day set aside to showcase the achievements and capabilities of the Nigerian Army within the year in review and 2021 marks the 158th celebration of the event.
