ABUJA TRADERS DECRY RISING FOOD PRICES -WATCH VIDEO
Foodstuff traders in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have decried the instability in prices as well as the worsening inflation in the country.
Recently, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) pegged the inflation rate at 32.15 in August down from 33.40 per cent in July, with the food inflation at 37.52 per cent.
For quite long since 2023 the prices of foodstuff in Nigeria have continued to rise, bringing hardships to the masses who can barely keep up with the inflation in the economy.
Signature TV went to the Market in Mpape, a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory, under Bwari Area Council, where traders expressed displeasure with the arbitrary increase in prices of foodstuff.
Similarly, transportation fares which increased by at least 50 per cent in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, amid the recent hike in the price of Premium Motor Spirit, have refused to come down.
Premium Motor Spirit also known as fuel has sold for N897 in Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited’s outlets from former N617 per litre while other retail outlets and independent marketers’ filling stations in Abuja sell between N1100 and N1300.
The situation created another boon for black market operators who sell the commodity for between N1300 and N1700 per litre.
The traders called on the federal government to reduce the prices of foodstuffs and other commodities across the country.
