ABUJA WORKERS WITHDRAW SERVICES OVER STAFF WELFARE -WATCH VIDEO
Striking staff of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), supported by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), staged a major protest at the FCTA Secretariat as part of their ongoing total and indefinite strike over unresolved labour and welfare issues.
Protesters defied anti-riot police and other security operatives stationed at the main gate of the FCTA Secretariat demanding the removal of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike who according to reports eventually left the office via a back gate to avoid protesters.
The Minister of the FCT Nyesom Wike, entered into his office with ease on Monday with the help of the operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Nigeria Police Force despite locked gates by the striking workers.
The industrial action was initiated by the Joint Union Action Congress (JUAC), which instructed employees at all levels within the FCT public service to withdraw their services.
According to the President of the Joint Union Action Committee, Comrade Rifkatu Iortyer, the workers are on strike to get the federal capital territory administration to pay unpaid promotion arrears, address delays in staff promotions and to end the continued service extensions granted to directors and permanent secretaries who are due for retirement.
The workers say they are determined to paralyse all government activities activities if that is what it will take to get justice.
