Achi, Enugu State, Mourn LGA Chairman, Brother Assassinated By Unknown Gunmen

Indigenes of Achi in Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State will today converge at their ancestral capital, Obu Achi to deliberate on the gruesome murder of two brothers Ozo Gab Onuzulike and his elder brother Chief Elvis Onuzulike, by unknown gunmen on Friday, 18th of November, 2022 at Nkpokolo Achi. Achi is made up of twelve Autonomous Communities.
The killing of the siblings, which has created a lot of tension and anger, is coming on the heels of recent killings of policemen at the Oji River Police Area Command and Inyi Police Division all in Oji River LGA, and incessant kidnappings in the Local Government Area.

The meeting which is being convened by Concerned Citizens of Achi has one agenda “THE GRUESOME ASSASSINATION OF OUR BROTHERS, OZO GAB ONUZULIKE AND CHIEF ELVIS ONUZULIKE AND MATTERS ARISING”.

Signature TV learnt that the meeting will also deliberate on efforts to raise money for a holistic security plan to secure Achi in collaboration with neighbouring communities
In a related development the Chairman of Oji-River LGA, Hon. Chinedu Onyeagba, has made available, a cash reward of Two Million Naira (N2,000,000.00), for anyone with useful information that will lead to the arrest of the criminals that killed Onuzulike, who was also a former Enugu State Commissioner for Rural Development and his brother Chief Elvis Onuzulike.
In a public service announcement he personally signed, the Chairman assured that anyone with useful information will not only be rewarded adequately but his identity and safety will be protected and guaranteed by the government and security agencies.
In a quick reaction to the security challenges which a security expert confided in Signature TV was coming from the Anambra State end of the border, the Local Government authorities working with security agencies has blocked some porous entry and exit points between Enugu and Anambra State pending a comprehensive security strategy to confront the menace.
Speaking to Signature TV, an indigene of the community who requested not to be mentioned, said though the local government and the concerned citizens were late in their intervention, it was better late, than never.
He said that “criminal gangs and Fulani herdsmen had made life unbearable and a living hell for communities in the area”.
“The state government, the police and soldiers should come to our aid before these evil men drive us away from our ancestral homes” he said.
Signature TV in the last couple of months have been reporting the increasing wave of armed banditry in Enugu State and the inadequate security measures prevalent across the state.

Between Friday, 18th November 2022 when the twin murders took place in Achi and Sunday 20th of November, 2022, three policemen were shot dead by unknown gunmen at Agbani and reports have it that at the 4 Corner/Udi Road a woman was murdered and scores of passengers kidnapped by unknown gunmen.

So far no official statement has come from the State Government on any of the Killings or what the Government is doing to contain the worsening security situation.
