Power outage has hit parts of Côte d’Ivoire, the host country of the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON.
A popular Nigerian sports journalist, Suleiman Adebayo, disclosed this during an interview with Channels Television on Tuesday.
He spoke on the sidelines of Nigeria’s lone-goal victory against Guinea-Bissau on Monday.
According to him, the power outage has lasted over five hours across significant cities in Côte d’Ivoire.
“There is a power outage here for about five hours, perhaps due to the 4-0 loss by the Ivorians to Equatorial Guinea”, he said.
The development comes after the Ivorians suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat to Equatorial Guinea on Monday.
Equatorial Guinea finished top in group A, while Nigeria finished runners-up with seven points.
Recall that on January 4, the Confederation of African Football, CAF, announced an increase in the prize money for the winner of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, by 40 per cent.
The ultimate winner of AFCON 2023 will now receive $7,000,000. The runner-up gets $4,000,000, and the two semi-finalists will be awarded $2,500,000. The four quarter-finalists will each receive $1,300,000.
