ARMY COMMENCES SITTING ON OKUAMA MASSACRE

The Board of Inquiry set up by the Defence Headquarters to investigate the March 14 killing of 17 officers and soldiers at Okuama in Delta State commenced sitting in Warri on Wednesday the 10th of April.

Chairman of the Board, Air Vice Marshal David Ajayi, told Governor Sheriff Oborevwori that the board is on a fact-finding mission and not to apportion blame.

Air Vice Marshal Ajayi said the board would gather facts from security agencies, community leaders, and community dwellers that will assist them come out with a report that would ensure healthy communication and enhance civil-military relations in the area.

The leaders of the Okuma community however said their would not be part of the inquiry because the people are scattered in the bushes where they are taking refuge and cannot come out to attend such meetings when their safety is not guaranteed.

The lawyer for the Okuama community Innocent Ejedegba also confirmed that Okuama people would not attend the sitting.

The Okoloba community which has a land dispute with the Okuama people are however eager to participate in the inquiry while the Delta State government has indicated interest to present a position paper to the military inquiry.
