A headcount of commercial sex workers in Bauchi state would be conducted by the Government to ascertain their accurate data.
This was disclosed by the Permanent Commissioner in charge of Hisbah and Sharia Implementation, Malam Aminu Balarabe-Isah at a sensitization workshop organised for commercial sex workers on Monday.
He stated that this headcount would help discourage the sex workers from pursuing this trade as it is a dangerous one and monitored that this trade was done due to poverty, illiteracy or maltreatment from their stepmothers.
He further stated the Governments plans to organize empowerment programmes and support them with funds to start up small scale businesses as well mass marriages for as many that had serious suitors. On behalf of the sex workers, Hafsatu Azare stated their willingness to leave if they were given adequate help.
