The Bayelsa State Police command has confirmed the killing of a suspected kidnapper in Igbedi/Amassoma Road, Sagbama Local Government Area of the state.

It was gathered that the incident occurred on Saturday when a large number of suspected kidnappers stormed a construction site in the area, targeting the expatriates for abduction.

A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Asinim Butswat stated that security operatives engaged the unspecified number of suspected kidnappers and gunned one of them down.

According to the statement, the gunmen succeeded in kidnapping one of the expatriates who was rescued by the operatives of the Nigerian Navy who responded promptly to the attack.
“The JTF, Navy, Army and other Security agencies were alerted and subsequently at about 0950 hours, the Navy engaged the kidnappers in a fierce gun battle along Ogoinbiri waterways and rescued the victim unhurt. The kidnappers escaped with varying degrees of bullet wounds. Efforts are being intensified to arrest the fleeing kidnappers.

“The Command hereby advise Medical Doctors, other health workers and Native Doctors against treatment of gunshot wounds without alerting the Police”, the statement added.
