Blackout In FCT As Truck Destroys Transmission Line

A Truck carrying gravels has destroyed transmission line in Mpape, a surburb of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja.

The incident happened on Tuesday when a truck carrying gravels lost control because of the condition of the road and ran into a 132kV Katampe-Central area Transmission line Tower number 20 located at mpape road, Abuja.
Although no life was lost at press time, but the driver was badly injured and receiving treatment in the hospital. 
At the moment, there is no supply to the 1x100MVA Substation as well as the 3x60MVA Central Area Substation and the affected areas include, Maitama, Wuse, Central area and some parts of Garki.


Efforts are being made currently to restore power supply to the affected areas.

Meanwhile the Executive Director Transmission Service Provider, Engineer Victor Adewumi said they are on top of the situation, but the Central Business District will be in total blackout till after four days.

He added that the damage is much as the commission will begin to restore the power base which can be achievable in two week time, but a temporarily divert the line using the HT pole to supply power into the Substation, which will take up tp four days to get it done due to the damage.

Also speaking to Signature TV, the Chief Technical Officer, Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, (AEDC), Engineer Kassim Burkullu, said they have removed the wires on the road to prevent loss of life and also that they are working to see that light is restored within the shortest possible time.

He gave the assurance that power will be restored today for customers in Mpape and Wuse axis, while other affected areas will be taken care of as they are working together with Transmission Service Provider to provide a lasting solution.

At the scene of the accident men of the Nigerian Police, Army, Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC), Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO), and other volunteers were seen at the scene trying to control the gridlock in the area.

Resident of Mpape are not comfortable about the situation as accident occur in the area but they were happy that this time no life was lost in the accident. 

They urged the government to provide good road for them in the area.
