President Muhammed Buhari has approved the appointment of 18 new Appeal Court Justices.
In a memo to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, sighted by SignatureTV on Wednesday, the President cited the provisions of section 237 and 238 0f the 1999 constitution empowering him to approve the appointments.
The memo which was signed by the Chief of Staff to the President, Prof Ibrahim Gambari named the 18 new Appeal Court Justices as coming from Niger, Plateau, Adamawa and Taraba which have one Justice each.
The rest are Yobe and Ondo with two each, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Zamfara, Imo, Bayelsa, Lagos and Ogun with one each.
Prominent among the new Justices is Justice Kenneth Amadi of the Nigeria Industrial Court Jos who now goes to the Court of Appeal in Imo State.
Justice Amadi is the only appeal court justice from the former Eastern Region elevated in the new appointments.
