BudgIT faults FG’s N711.28b commitment to healthcare
CIVIC-TECH organisation, BudgIt Foundation has faulted the Federal Government’s N711.28 billion commitment to the healthcare of every Nigerian.
BudgIt revealed that the Federal Government (FG) only commits N3,453 to the health of each Nigerian in its budgetary allocations.
It said that although Nigeria is a signatory to the Abuja declaration which places all West African countries on the pedestal of committing 15% of their budget to health care, Nigeria has never met hers.
Assistant Manager Budglt, Iyanoluwa Bolarinwa, who disclosed this, said that lack of proper investment by the government makes it difficult for the ordinary Nigerian to access adequate health care.
The project which was supported by Conrad Hilton Foundation and Skoll Foundation is implementing the second phase of the COVID-19 Transparency and Accountability Project (CTAP) aimed at tracking all funds and donations made by individuals, corporate bodies, and international donors in support of the Federal Government COVID-19 intervention as well as responses targeted at mitigating the impact of the pandemic on its citizens.
He said, “What we are here to do today is try and create a coalition between health and healthcare workers as civil society organizations and trying to see how we can allocate our efforts to deepen the advocacy around investment in health in Nigeria and Africa in general.”
