President Muhammadu Buhari has endorsed the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, for the September 19 governorship election in Edo State, Mai Malla Buni said on Friday.

Buni who is also the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the APC, led Ize-Iyamu to Aso Rock in the company of Borno State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, to solicit support for the APC candidate.

It was not clear, however, whether the President will participate in the forthcoming APC rally in Edo State to garner support for Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.

Briefing State House Correspondents after the meeting, Buni said that President Buhari gave his blessings to the candidate.

The Edo State governorship candidate, Pastor Ize-Iyamu used the occasion to debunk the notion that the 3 Edo State lawmakers and the 14 members-elect of the State House of Assembly sat in his house on Thursday to impeach the Speaker of the House and elect a new one.

“Let me debunk the statement that 17 members of the State House of Assembly sat in my sitting room, it is not true.”

He also dismissed the insinuations that the President did not want to see him, alleging that it was a falsehood being perpetrated by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State described his Edo State counterpart and candidate of the PDP in the September elections, Godwin Obaseki, as a liability to the PDP.

“I can assure you that Governor Obaseki is a liability to the PDP. I can assure you that we are contesting against a governor who failed most woefully,” Ganduje said.
